When you are at home in the world, the heart of your home should reflect it. The clients, owners of a gorgeous brownstone in the heart of Boston, came to Divine looking for a more modern and eclectic kitchen. They wanted to be sure the new space would capture their love of travel and international style in the design. Drawing from both Moroccan inspiration and a fresh European style, the Divine team gave them the best of both worlds: a truly eclectic kitchen style, and a layout to make the space completely functional.
The inspiration for the Moroccan kitchen style started close to home—right in the kitchen itself. The couple’s dining table, formerly an elegantly designed door found on a trip to Morocco, captured the essence of the client’s style and adventurous spirit. The designer decided on a bold, wrap-around backsplash, custom made by an artist in Miami, FL. The bold color and striking geometric pattern draws its design from another inspiring door—the gates of the Morocco’s Royal Palace in Fez.
The dated kitchen had neither modern style nor function, so the team set out to improve its usefulness with a modern kitchen design. The builder-grade cabinets were removed, replaced with sleek Leicht cabinets in a two-tone selection of crisp white upper cabinets, and earthy, oak laminate base cabinets for the old-world appeal of weathered wood. The U-shaped kitchen layout provided plenty of prep space, and a full wall of cabinetry created ample storage out of what had previously been a large, empty wall space.
Environmentally friendly recycled paper resin countertops were used throughout. These provided a rich balance to the color palette, and plenty of durability as well. Paper resin countertops are a great selection for those needing a durable, easy maintenance counter material. To complete the space, the existing floor was refinished throughout the unit to create the perfect balance while unifying the flooring throughout the unit.
Entertaining and enjoying the new space was a primary goal for this project, so the Divine Design team outfitted the kitchen with all the necessities for entertaining ease, including a speed oven and a wine fridge. High-end professional appliances were chosen for easy meals and entertaining. The addition of a speed oven created even more options for preparation. The large glass-front built-in wine fridge was installed within the cabinet system to provide the perfect chill for the collection, while making best use of space.
To make the most of every storage area, a small section of cabinet space was reserved as inset open kitchen shelves to provide flexible solutions for storage and display. The shelving was wide enough to house a microwave oven for daily use, without the permanence of a built-in or over-the-range oven. The space serves the functional purpose of storing cookbooks within easy reach, which providing an attractive space to display finds from the couple’s travels. Open kitchen shelves work well for small kitchens and large, but are especially useful when space is tight.
"After considering three other custom kitchen shops, we are happy to have chosen Divine over the others, and we would recommend your business to anyone considering a high quality custom kitchen."
