The most personal space in your home is the bathroom – specifically the master bathroom. When you move into a home, it often doesn’t truly feel like it is “yours” until you’ve added personal touches to the master bath. In this case, the homeowners moved into a space that was completely lacking in personality. The builder had installed run-of-the-mill fixtures and called it a day. Worse, because of his height, the husband didn’t even fit into the fiberglass shower!

This Metrowest Boston-area couple turned to designer Mariette Barsoum to reinvigorate the boring bathroom to make it functional and beautiful. Barsoum gave the couple privacy by taking unused space from a closet and turning it into a toilet room. Next, she made the space larger by replacing the massive, unused tub with a large “deck” with a sleek, modern stand-alone bathtub tucked into the window area.

Before, the couple had to share three vanity drawers as their only storage. Today, there is a new cabinet with a frosted glass door to add modern flair. But it is the his-and-hers shower that is the real show stopper. Multiple shower heads, a built-in granite seat, frameless glass enclosure and a towel warming rack all work together to allow them to stretch out and luxuriate in the shower.

"My kitchen required a complete design change in order to have it function effectively. With Mariette’s help, we were able to double our cabinet space, triple our counter space and retain our eat-in-area – all without adding any square footage! Mariette was able to understand and design what we wanted for our kitchen, while contributing ideas which enhanced the project. In addition, all the materials she supplied (cabinets, countertops, hardware etc) were of superior quality. Further, Mariette’s part of the project was completed on time and on budget!"
