Brownstones are quintessential Boston and are high on charm … but often low on space. These homeowners recognized the potential of their newly purchased home and worked with the Divine team for a multi-room overhaul before they moved in. Downstairs, the kitchen and interior millwork (doors, stairs, and banisters) were undergoing a dramatic transformation, while up on the fourth floor, the Divine design team had their work cut out for them to turn this dated, dark space into a functional, beautiful bathroom.
To make it work, Barsoum carefully listened to what the homeowners wanted from their ideal master bathroom. From there, she created a design that involved reframing the entire fourth floor which included the master bathroom, bedroom and closet. The original bathroom had odd nooks-and-crannies, distracting archways, and, above all, was very dark and confining despite the overhead skylights.
Although this brownstone probably dates back to the 1800s, you’d certainly never know it from how modern it is inside today. His-and-her vanities, extra storage cabinets, and frameless shower doors add beauty and style. The taller mirrors make the room visually larger while drawing your eyes up to the skylights. Barsoum’s team also replaced every window in this home with energy-efficient windows.
Revitalized from top-to-bottom, this historic brownstone has been returned to its former glory and is the envy of the neighborhood.

"Mariette, our kitchen is beautiful, and those who have seen it just love the space, the feel and the use of color. From the beginning, it was a collaborative effort and Mariette was straightforward, honest and through the whole process, kept her work. She was also able to offer us a great product and excellent workmanship. We would highly recommend Divine and Mariette Barsoum to anyone."
